Baba Balak Nath Temple(Deotsidh)

Baba Balak Nath Temple is located in Deotsidh forest in the south of Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. The temple is situated on Dholgiri hills and is 4 km away from the base Shahtalai city. Baba Balak Nath is also known as Paunahari or Dudhahari. Baba Balak is the son of Lord Shiva. The temple is very big and the women are not allowed to go near to the cave as there is a different way to seek the blessings from Baba Balak Nath ji. During Navratras, there is a continuous stream of visitors to receive blessings of the Baba.


The birth story of Baba ji as "Sidh-Purush" is associated with the Amar Katha. When Lord Shiva was sharing the amar katha with Goddess Parvati in the Amarnath cave, the Goddess fell asleep and at that time a kid of parrot was there in the cave and was listening to the amar katha and was making the noise "yes"(hmm). When the story gets finish, Lord Shiva found that Goddes Parvati has asleep and knew that someone other was listening to the story and saw the parrot. Lord Shiva became angry and throw trishul on parrot. The parrot get escaped to save life and the trishul followed him. In the way wifi of Rishi Vyas was yawning, the parrot entered her stomach through her mouth. Trishul stopped as it was unreligious to kill the lady. Lord Shiva reach there and narrate the problem to Rishi. Rishi told them to wait there and as the parrot came out, he could kill him. Lord Shiva stand for long time there and the world gets disordered. All Lord met Narada and requested him to request the lord to save the world. Narada came to the Lord Shiva and prayed to lord to leave his anger as the child has listen ti amar katha, so now he became immortal and nobody can kill him. On listening to Narada, Lord Shiva leave his anger and told parrot to came out. In return parrot demand blessings for him. Lord Shiva accepted that but parrot prayed to him that he will came out as a man and who else get birth at same time would be granted with all the knowledge and would be immortal. Lord Shiva accepted and a baby came out from the Rishi Vyas wife's mouth. He prayed and get the blessings. The baby was called by Sukhdev Muni later. The other babies who got birth at that time were famous as Navnatha and eighty-four siddhas (Chaurasi Sidh). One of them was Baba Balak Nath.

Miracle in Shahtalai

Babaji came to ShahTalai and met "RatniMai" - the epitome of Dvapra's old woman, who had guided "Mahakaul Babaji".  Baba Ji want to compansate that what an old women do for him in the dvapra yuga. So the Babaji took the work of the women and made his shelter under the Banyan Tree. He told the lady that he will mediate there and grazed the cow side by side. Babaji asked the women to keep bread and lassi over there for him which he will take after the meditation and committed to women that he will work there untill she gets satisfied. Every thing was smooth for 12 years but at the end of the the year women get starting complaints againts the cow that there fields are getting damaged but she ignore them. When she get complaints from the village headman her patience broke and took them all to the field along with babaji and there was no damaged to the crops. Everyone was struck by his miracle. Babaji came back to his place and asked the Ratnamai to take her cows back and let him go away. Ratnamai persuade him to stay back and reminded him of providing bread and lassi for 12 years. Babaji said that it was coincidently and he had kept all bread and lassi as he has no eaten them. On saying this Babaji struck is chimta on the Banyan tree stem and the bread supllied to him came out. After that Babaji struck his chimta on earth and the spring of lassi came out in the shape of pond and the place was known as Shahtalai. Babaji established his "Dhuna" under the "Garna Jhari" which is half km away from the Shahtalai and a hollow structure was made to symbolize the " Hollow of Banyan Tree".
