Bhoramdeo Temple

The Bhoramdeo complex is known by the sobriquet the "Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh".

Bhoramdeo Temple is the Hindu temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located in Kawarda district in the state of Chhattisgarh. It comprises a group of four temples of which the earliest is a brick-temple.

History

The history and archeological detailes of the temple are dated to Kalachuri Period 10th-12th centuries with close identity with the sculptures found in nearby archeological sites such as Kalachuri,.  The brick temples were built during the rule of Pandus. The temple complex is credited to  Nagwanshi Kings who practiced tantrism and who ruled in the then Southern Koshal, which is now the state of Chhattisgarh. The complex is highlighted as  "scintillating poetry in stone".

Cherki Mahal

Last temple of the complex is Cherki Mahal which is situated in a thinly forested area. A Shiva Linga form, not carved is deified in this temple. The roof of the sanctum of the temple has lotus decoration.

Open Air Museum

Temple consist of open air museum which has the large  collection of archeological antiquaries unearthed from the area, which are dated to 2nd and 3rd centuries. Sati pillar is there having unique architectural motif  in which couples are carved in squatting amorous postures called the "alingana-mudra". Redcolor temple with diety Hanuman is also seen there on one side of the courtyard.
