Jim Corbett National Park

In the State of Uttarakhand, India there are many places to visit. One of the oldest national park in India is Jim Corbett National Park which is situated in Nainital. This park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. The main motive of this park is to protect the endangered tigers. Jim Corbett plays a key role in its establishment so it is known as Jim Corbett National Park. The land area of 520.8 km sq comprises of Hills, Riverine Belts, Marshy Depressions, Grasslands and a large lake and covers 73% of Forest and 10% of grassland.  The altitude of this place is 1210 mt. Corbett National Park divided into 5 different zones to promote the tourism.  There are many festivals celebrated in this place. Famous festivals are Kandali, Holi, Diwali and Dussehra. This national park is houses around 110 tree species, 50 species of mammals, 580 bird species and 25 reptile species. Kumauni, Garhwali, Hindi languages are used in this place. It is famous for Wildlife and Scenic. The 5 tourism zones are :

Flora and Fauna

Flora : There are total 488 species of plants in this national park. Some trees are in this park are ohini, karipak, ber, dhak, simal, grewia, bael, kurha, jhingan, marorphali, khair, bakli, tendu, pula, sain, sal, khair, sissoo etc. There are different kinds of trees, shrubs, ferns, grass, climbers, herbs and Bamboo in this national park. There are 51 species of shrubs and 33 species of bamboo in this park.

Fauna : There are different species of Fauna in this national park. There are more than 586 species of migratory birds. 30 species of reptiles, 7 species of amphibians, 7 species of fish and 37 species of dragonflies have been recorded.Jim Corbett national park. Jungle Cat, Fishing cat, Leopard cat, Barking deer, Sambar deer, Hog deer, Chital, Sloth, Indian grey mongoose, Himalayan goral, Indian pangalins, Langur and Himalayan black bears are some fauna's in national park.

The best time to visit in this place is in winters from November to June. There are different Zones in this national park. The best time for these zones are :

  • Jhirna Zone : Throughout the year
  • Dhikala Zone : 15th November to 15th June.
  • Bijrani Zone  : 1st October to 30th June
  • Sonanadi Zone : Throughout the year
  • Durga Devi Zone : 15th November to 15th June
