Nagarhole National Park

In the State of Karnataka, India there is a National park known as Nagarhole National Park. This national park is located in the Kodagu district. This park is one of the best managed park. This park is also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park.  Visitors enjoy many things in this national park like  coracle ride, boat ride, elephant ride, Jeep safari etc. This park is famous for its wildlife. In this park Snakes, Four-Horned Antelope, Sloth Bear, Porcupine, Jackal, Mouse-deer wildlife are found. The elevation of this park is 960 mt. above the sea level. This national park spread 642 square km area.  Mysore is the nearest city from Nagarhole. The distance of Mysore is 50 km from Nagarhole. The ideal duration is 1 to 2 days. Kannada, English, Hindi languages are mostly used in this place. There are many things like small streams, hills, valleys and waterfalls in this park. There are different types of Flora and Fauna in this park. There are more than 270 species of birds in this national park. This park open throughout the year.

History

This park was set up in the tear of 1955. In the year of 1988 this park was established as a National Park and in the year 1999 this park was declared the thirty seventh Project Tiger Reserve. The name of the park derived from the word Naga which means Snake and Hole which means Streams and the Nagarhole means snake river.

Flora and Fauna

Flora : There are different types of Flora in this park. Some examples are Silver Oak, Sandalwood, Rose wood, Teak, Indian Kinoo Tree, Pala Indigo, Grevia Tilaefolia, Kadam, Cotton Tree, Indian Gooseberry, Beechwood, Golden Shower Tree, Cluping Bamboo and different types of Shrubs like Horse Nettles, Tick Clover etc.

Fauna : There are different types of Fauna in this park. Some examples are sloth bear, jungle cat, civet, spotted deer, tiger, panther, sambhar, wild boar, black-naped hare, bonnet macaque and pangolin, Snakes, Four-Horned Antelope, Sloth Bear, Indian Elephant, Leopard Cat, European Otter, Grey Langur, Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Golden Jackals, Mouse deer, South Bears,  Indian pangolin, Indian scimitar babbler,  Malabar whistling thrush, white cheeked barbet and different types of Reptiles and Insects etc. are in this park.
