In the state of Tamil Nadu, there is a town located in Pamban Island known as Rameswaram. Rameswaram means "Lord of Rama". At the very tip of Indian Pennisula, Rameswaram is located in Gulf of Mannar. Pamban Island is also known as Rameswaram Island. It is a holiest place in India  and the part of Char Dham pilgrimage. From Rameswaram, God  Rama built a Bridge to Sri Lanka to rescue Mata Sita from Ravana and it is the closest point to reach Sri Lanka from India. Rama Sethu is the former of land connection betwwen India and Sri Lanka. This Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. From the 12 jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva in India Rameswaram jyotirlinga repesent the southernmost. The second largest rail bridge of India is Pamban rail bridge and is also known as Queen of Indian bridges.


Before the arrival of Lord Rama, Rameswaram Island is named as  “Gandhamadhanam” as there exist Shiva Temple. The various types of Conches and Pearls are the Historical evidence that were exported to different countries. During the period of Chola and Pandya kingdom Rameswaram eas one of the most important harbours. In the year 1935 a stamp with the picture of Rameswaram Temple was released by the British Government. In 1414 CE by Udaiyaan Sethupathi and Pararajasekara Aryasakravarthy the renovation and reconstruction process of the Ramanathaswamy temple was started. The granite stones were transported to Rameswaram through water route which were used to obtained from the mountains of Sri Lanka.
