Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary

In the State of Assam, India there are many places to visit. There are different national parks or wildlife sanctuaries to visit in this state. Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary is one of them. Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuaryis located along the foothills of the Great Himalayan Range. It covers an area of 175 sq. km. This sanctuary was established in 1998. The nearest city from Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary is Tezpur. There are amny places to visit in Tezpur. There are many attractions in this wildlife sanctuary. Main attractions are Tiger, Lesser Cats, Elephant, Qaur, Wild Boar, Hog Deer, Barking Deer. This sanctuary is larger than the nearby Pabha wildlife sanctuary.

Flora and Fauna

Flora : The floristic combination is rare and unique to this place, hard to find in other places. Different flora's are found here i.e  many herbs, rosewood, teak, sandal are commonly found here.

Fauna : Apart from Indian Bison and Elephant, it is abode to tiger, barking deer, hog deer, leopard, wild boar, squirrel, wild pig, Gaur, fox, spectacular one horned rhinoceros and some rare species of cats, Pelican, white slender-billed vulture, white-winged wood duck and rufous-necked hornbill thrive along with the migratory birds from Siberia and Mongolia. Russell’s viper, python, Indian karait etc. are some of the reptiles also found in this park.

The best time to visit in Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary is from November to April.
