Vaishno Devi Mandir, Jammu

Vaishno Devi is located in Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is one of the holiest pilgrimage places in the country. Being the holiest pilgrimage for hindus Vaishno devi is a place where you seriously feel that god exists.  Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani, Trikuta and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Hindu Mother Goddess Mahalakshmi. The shrine is located inside a cave.  This cave is present inside a three-peaked mountain called Trikuta or Trikoot. It's a place to where people climb not with the help of their body stamina but with their trust and enthusiasm to have darshan of the great Mata Vaishno Devi. Vaishno Devi temple is open for pilgrims throughout the year that's why Millions of devotees go there. But maximum visitors plan their trip during the Navratras.

The temple is open all round the year and 24x7. It consists of the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. Mata Vaishno Devi, also popularly known as Mata Vaishnavi and Mata Rani in Hinduism, is believed to have spent some time in this cave at an altitude of 5,200 ft while observing various spiritual disciplines.  To reach the temple one has to either go by foot, hiking 14 kms. or take a horse/pony ride up hill or palanquin rides where four people carry one person on a chair hoisted by poles. There is also helicopter service available from Sanjichat to the temple area. An advice from me is that you can avoid reaching Bhavan between 7-9 pm because the line stops moving for those two hours to perform evening prayers. After 9 pm you start to move and take another hour to reach.

There are many coffee and tea shops and also toilets are available at regular intervals for smooth journey. You don't need to stuff your bags with eatables because there are plenty shops which provide you with every basic necessity. But you have to beware of monkeys, they are everywhere, they won't harm you but would take away any eatable you are eating in open.

Keep these things in Mind
Pilgrims Visit this temple throughout the year, but summer weather is better to go here.

  • The minimum temperature in winter goes from -3 to -4 degrees, and there is also the risk of landslides of rocks. Therefore, avoid traveling in this weather.
  • You must have necessary medicines with you, because some people faces vomit type problems while climbing to the height.
  • Carry less amount of things with you during climbing , walking stick to climb will prove extremely helpful to you.
