In the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India there are many tourist places to visit. There are many attraction in Jammu and Kashmir. Shiv Khori is one of them. It is very famous temple. Shiv Khori is located  77 km from Katra. This place is situated in Reasi District. Shiv Khori is famous cave shrine of Hindu. It is dedicated  to Lord Shiv. Shivkhori Cave is a real wonder to see and measures nearly half a kilometer in length with a 4 feet high naturally formed Shiv-lingam at the heart of the Sanctum Sanctorum. This place is best for God Lovers, Experience Seekers, Nirvana Seekers and Nature Lovers. This place is famous for Pilgrim and Innate Beauty. Urdu and Hindi languges are used in this place. The Shivkhori cave is about 200 meters long, one meter broad and three meters high. Many numbers of devotees come in this place every year. There are many festivals celebrate in this place. The most famous festival is Mahashivratri which is celebrated in the month of February or first week of March. The other festivals are Basant Panchami and Diwali etc.

The name is derived from Shiv and Khori. Khori means Cave. So Shiv Khori means Lord Shiv's Cave. 


According to assumptions, the abode of Lord Shiva in the cave itself and the tunnel remains a second to get going in Amarnath. Anyone who says he tried to go forward in the tunnel was never to return. It is said that in Dwaparyuga, the saints used to travel to Amarnath through this cave but nobody has able to cross the cave. The tunnel has been shut down. The Shivaling present in the cave is believed to be a naturally formed shivalinga. The cave is 3 meters in height, 1 meter wide, and 300 meter long. The cave also has naturally formed Nandi and Parvati. It also has a snake like carving on the cave.

Shiv khori yatra is 3-4 km. Devotees can also complete their yatra by horses which is provided by the Shrine Board. ShivKhori is very beautiful place. It is believed that in the Shivratri and in the month of Savan the water is turned into white color which is looks like milk. In this Cave, on the walls you will see the shape of gods and goddesses. Lakhs of pilgrims from various parts in the state and out of it come to visit the shrine for Shiva’s blessings in Mahashivratri. Mobile phones are not allowed in this temple. Devotees can deposit their phones in Lockers which facility is provide by Shrine Board.

The timings of this temple is from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM in all days of week.

The Best time to Visit in Shiv Khori is in winters from October to April. 


In Summer : The temperature in summer is 24  degree Celsius to 39 degree Celsius. 

In Winter : The temperature in winter is -2 degree Celsius to 20 degree Celsius.

By Air : Satwari airport is the nearest airport from Shiv khori. This is domestic airport and located in Jammu. The distance of this airport is 106 km from Shiv khori.

By Rail : The nearest railway station is Katra railway station and Jammu Tavi Railway station. The distance of this railway station is 77 km and 107 km respectively from Shiv khori.

By Bus : Shiv khori is well connected to all major cities. Devotees can come here with cabs and there own car.
